I've bought two of these things now, and neither work. Can someone recommend me a decently priced 2.5" hd enclosure? One that doesn't require a special cable, and provides power to the drive.

And yes, I'm well aware of google & searching, but I would like to know of someone that has a working one in their possession, or atleast has experience with one. I could only find this 2.5" enclosure thread when searching.

I went with an AMS model. Supports up to 1A, so it should work fine.

I had a problem once trying to hook up a external USB Pocket drive to my laptop. The USB connector had only one connector. Found out it was a 1.1 connection, not a 2.0 that was needed. The next time the USB connection was a Y type, and I plugged the both leads and it worked. If your's a double lead, plug in both or get one that has both.

Well, I have one, but it requires a large USB (type A large, I believe) type cable, and I have yet to find one. So that drive is useless. And I bought another one Friday, but it only self powers 2.5" drives with .5A or less. The drive I'm working on is .7A, so it didn't work.

Then there was the POS Vantec NexStar 2 or something, which was a nightmare to own. But it got tossed, but that was a 3.5" enclosure anyway.

I have a 2.5" Vantec Nexstar, and it works like a charm.

It also comes with a dual USB cable, so that if it can't pull enough power from one, you can plug in the other one.

Both my Tablet and my main machine can run it off single USB, though. I recommend it.

Hi, I assume you are talking about a USB cable with the same Flat connector on each end. Try the camera stores. Some cameras use such a cable. Good Luck, Jim
