The Ultra-D is not SLi (Of course) but it supports "Dual Mode which is 90% fast as SLI"
If thats the case, could 2 ati cards use this dual mode?

It seems straightforward, but what is dual mode?

Do all sli boards and boards with 2 pci-e slots support this "dual mode"?

i believe thats nvidia only, and apparently Nvidia dont really like this dual mode thing either, they havent initiated it, the motherboarb manufactures have. and i still think u need the SLi bridge connector, only problem is it doesnt get bundled with the boards that dont have proper Sli

no not all boards support this dual mode, last i heard it was DFI's idea and they implemented it

anything thats got Sli in the name has a very good chance of not workin if u try to do the same with 2 Ati cards, Ati's dual card set up is called AMR so ud need to look out for boards with that in the name.

Dual mode is basically this. one pci slot is 16x but the other is only 2x or maybe 4x. Sli calls for the 8x and 8x, so as u can see one slot is running considerably slower than the other, thats all i remember anyway

Thanks for the save SunnyD, i changed my title.

but otispunkmeyer and the rest of the people confused...

If the DFi ultra-d and sli-dr supports this DXG (16x and 2x multi card setup feature) which is supposedly 90% as fast as SLI then....

wouldnt it be possible to take 2 x800's and put them in the Ultra-D and use this Feature??

As I said - it's not SLI... you're not going to get 90% anything... it's not doing SLI load balancing or anything. It's just a way to through up 4 accelerated monitors without using crappy PCI cards.

UPDATE 2/05/2005: nVidia has acted to prevent, or at least make it more difficult, to mod the Ultra board to SLI. First, DFI has advised us, and posted on their website, that they will NOT sell the SLI bridge to buyers of the Ultra board. Second, nVidia has advised us that future shipments of the Ultra chipset have been modified so that the mod to SLI will no longer be possible. An additional side effect of this second action is that the "Dual Video" mode, which performs at about 90% of SLI performance levels, will only work with nVidia SLI drivers 66.75 or earlier. If you do a quick check of web driver postings you will see it is now very difficult to find 66.75 drivers. With a chipset modded to SLI the "Dual Video" mode worked through 70.xx versions of the nVidia driver. nVidia also made it clear they will continue to make driver changes to prevent functioning of any "non-standard" (8X/8X) operation of their SLI driver. This also throws into question whether the VIA "dual graphics" mode on the 894 Pro chipset will ever work with nVidia graphics cards. If you are interested in the current UT Ultra-D we suggest you buy one now if you can find it. Future versions of the UT Ultra-D will not have the same capabilities as a result of these actions.

There...

SLowdown SunnyD i give you props and then you try and front on me :-D

SLi with bridge is not allowed and is disabled in the driver, but DXG is a feature different from SLi which doesnt need the bridge.
