Go to your Start Menu and click run.

Type MSCONFIG into the box and check out the "Startup" Tab.

This shows you the things that are running on startup and lets you easily turn things on and off.

I never knew that! I always open Regedit and go to these startup keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
