Has this been going on for a while? Sounds like temporary flakiness to me. I've sometimes gotten around update problems by entering through another path (link from MS vs. menu shortcut vs. direct entry in browser). Why in the world that should have changed anything, I can't imagine. But it has helped on occasion...
