I have a 3g 30GB Ipod that is starting to go (the screen flickers, it freezes, etc.) and I also have the COMPUSA TAP (technology assurance program)

Which vows to either replace my model (new) or give me an equivalent newer model (same price) or the credit for the original purchase price. ($399, I think, maybe $499? dont remember)

Anyway, what I am wondering is what is the test to see if the ipod is functional? Mine still plays music, but there are problems with the screen, battery, etc... Will that fly?

ALso, how have people done with getting full credit or the today's equivalent (in dollar terms) ipod (which now would be the 4g 40gb model)

Anyway, any input is appreciated.
Thanks
-Taylor

Telephone?

And batteries are usually categorized as "consumables" under extended warranties so you might be out of luck there.
Dunno about the screen though... as long as its not obvious physical damage you should be ok.

How about no one posts unless they've dealt with COMPUSA and TAP and are familiar with both? No? Maybe? Please?

He can't now because calling wasn't his first thought and CompUSA is now closed.

just break your ipod and have them replace it.

if you let them 'attempt' to fix it...they'll just fvck it more and you'll be back again.

<-- learnt from experience with their TAP and ipaq

It would seem fairly obvious that few people on these forums shop at CrapUSA, and even fewer actually bought an ESP on an electronic item. If you can find one person that actually has a TAP on a PDA or a handheld device like an iPod, I will be truly surprised and amazed.

Their TAP page on their website makes no mention whatsoever about absolute free replacement of that model - it says they'll try to repair it first. More than likely with an iPod it'll be unfixable and they'll give you a new one, unless it's the screen that's the root of all your problems, which they just ship out to Apple and have them fix it. The battery will not be covered under a warranty.

The whole reason why I said to call them is because who better to get a real, valid answer from than one of their technicians who would be entering your iPod into their TAP system and having it checked out by? Like I said above - if you can find one person with a TAP on an iPod from CrapolaUSA, I'd be surprised and amazed. It wasn't meant to be a smart ass remark - it was a real "call them and find out".

Witty remark witty remark omgomgomg!

You were just asking for it. Don't start thinking you're special, because that kind of attitude gets you nowhere fast.

I dont think I am special, but I do think if this thread turns into a douche bag fest then there's no chance of anyone offering me any assistance whatsoever.

and yes taking it into compusa and ask is a nice suggestion. and there is also the telephone!

if you are just an arse with an attitude and is so lazy, I HOPE COMPUSSR WILL SAY "TOUGH LUCK"

Well, do a search on the web for TAP and iPod. First off, you didnt have to buy the iPod at CompUSA to buy the TAP - and many people rushed to CompUSA's to buy the TAP because it was relatively cheap, and supposedly they just replace the iPod (the iPod TAP plan is seperate from the PDA or Printer TAP plan - it is no longer offered or referenced on COMPUSA's site... Now they offer the AppleCare plan, which is a repair first, then replace plan.) The replacement period is 2 years, and surprise surprise, if your model isnt available, you get the next generation of iPods, or YOUR PURCHASE PRICE BACK.

And I think the battery IS Covered under the iPod TAP plan, if I am not mistaken.

I simply asked a question in this thread, I don't know why everyone has to go insulting my intelligence or being a comedian. I am wondering what the criteria are for determining if an iPod is defective. If you don't know, don't answer, is that really too much to ask?

Just for clarity's sake, the offending comment in my eyes was the "god forbid someone use common sense" - not what RagingBITCH said. Her (I assume?) post was a perfectly reasonable yet impossible suggestion, but how was she to know?

Thanks dick. Not only are you not helping, but you want to call me an ass? I didn't initiate the animosity and rudeness in this thread, but I'd like to say "many thanks" to you for perpetuating it.

Somehow newbie questions in OT about eBay are answered - but my question, which can't be answered by a google search is responded to by a bunch of wiseasses. I'm not some newbie, and I'm not trying to waste anybody's time here - why does everyone want to waste mine?

RagingBITCH: Why don't you take it in there and ask?

TaylorD: I'm miles and miles away from the nearest COMPUSA, but thanks for being an ass.

OH YEAH THAT IS SO POLITE.

you see that monitor right in front of you? why don't you stand up, walk away from it, then run full speed into it. then you will find your answer.

good night sir.

Who the hell are you? You have nothing to offer here, so, I ask, why are you here in the first place?

As for the "ass" comment, that was referring to the earlier comment about "god forbid someone use common sense"

And, come on, run into my monitor, you can do better than that! Bring me back to the astonishing wit that you displayed with classics like "CompUSSR"

you made a post in ATOT. anyone has the freedom to post in it. if you don't like the reply you can go into the closet and cry. there is no need to insult anyone for making a legitimate suggestion. and bmacd was just making a joke.

lets see who curses the most and is actually trying to ask a favor. i'm sure that will make people really happy and help you out.

the "right to post" does not justify needless posts that don't help anyone at all in any way. I respect your right to post, you respect my right to dislike your post and to ask you not to post again.

I guess they'd replace it as fixing it will probably cost more than a new iPod.
