Delayed Write Failed

A friend from out of town brought me some files on a 37 gig Western Digital harddrive that I wish to copy. I hooked it up as Primary Slave, and I'm able to read to it fine. When I try to write to it, however it tells me . . .

Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all teh data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume2\ . . . The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

I right clicked on the drive and checked it for errors. Three hours later it looked to be < 10% done, and progress seems to have halted. Any idea what the deal is?

Thanks

Are you running Windows2000 or WinXP? Was the HD originally installed on your friend's PC as the Primary Master? HardDiskVolume1? or any other Volume number other than 2? If so, it has a signature wriiten to the HD's file system and your system is trying to give it a differant volume # than it already has causing an error with the file system. Win2K and WinXP can be difficult like that sometimes. Run a Checkdsk on it if you are running Win2K or WinXP, that may fix any file sus=ystem or directory errors caused by switching the drive from another system.
