"Delayed Write Failed" on External Firewire HD

I'm using a 120gig Maxtor HD in a firewire enclosure, this problem always occurs when I try to transfer large files (gig or so). After doing some searching, it seems to be a very common problem with no definite solution...any ideas?

I had the same problem with my old Firewire enclosure (with Seagate 80GB). It ended up corrupting the entire drive. I never trusted it after that. I have since switched to a USB 2.0 enclosure (same brand) and I have yet to have a single problem with it. Sorry I can't be of more help.

my friend had this problem and did tons of research on it. its a issue with the cluster sizes windows uses by defualt, its a certain crummy firewire to ATA bridge that has this problem and will cause problems when transfering only large files. i think its only for windows XP but i'm not sure.

he ended up just getting a new enclosure to remedy the problem.
