delay in connecting to internet

This is a bit tough to describe well because I don't what sort of information you knowlegeble types needs to fix this but here goes...

When I turn on my computer everything seems to load fine, xp is up and running but for some reason I can't open the sbcyahoo connection icon to connect to the internet until about one minute passes (clicking on it does nothing). At that point, then, I can open the sign in window and log on. As a side note, if I don't do anything after I turn on the computer I hear the hard drive go to work at the same time, about one minute after xp is up. I'd like to get rid of this delay. Please specify any additional information you may need.

And thanks.

You can try msconfig and clean up your startup items. I recall the xp pppoe connection having significant delay before loading possibly due to: startup items, acquiring network address, and normal network detections. If you still have sbc connection manager, get rid of it. Or else ditch the xp pppoe client and get a router to handle the authentication. There are many plus sides to using a router.

Newer SBC modems have PPPoE clients built in however SBC will not give you one for free. First model to have PPPoE client built into firmware was speedstream 5100b(shipped out late Jan 2004) now replaced with 2wire 1070b/speedstream 4100. Let us know how it goes =)
