Del Sol Body cracking

I've started to notice this crack forming along the body rear passenger panel near the back tire. Its a hairline crack but you can tell the crack is shifting. I'll be able to post a picture once I get a car wash today.

Anyone familiar with this? No rust as of yet but with winter coming around I would like to take care of this now.

That area in Hondas is prony to extreme rust from leaks near the rear windows. With the age of all Del Sol's I would wonder how much rust you have where you cant see.

Can you start taking it apart?

The trunk is leaking but the cabin is fine. Good point; exterior the shape of the body is excellent except for these 2 crack lines. I'll be getting picks soon. I know this is worthless without pics but figured if someone had a del sol, maybe encountered the same issue.

probably somebody bondo'd over a bunch of rust and slapped some paint on it. Now the rust is spreading and will soon peak through.

But this is completely hypothetical without pictures.

What is your question exactly? A Bondo/epoxy job would need to be done professionally and painted if you want it to look good. That's expensive.

Will it affect your daily driving? If you have a stock motor and drive like most people drive, no. If you have a built engine and drag race your Del Sol, then maybe, it would be a problem.

How expensive though? I haven't gotten pictures up! Argh holidays keeping me busy.

Sure it will not affect my daily driving but seeing that everything else in the car is mechanically sound, I don't want to deal with it later ~ 5 years when its rusted through. I live in Ohio, salt is everywhere when winter is around, it'll rust quickly.

The car only has 89xxx miles, pretty low for a '93. Paint still has its clear coat on, and it does look pretty nice when washed 🙂.

Next repair/replacement is going to be suspension, the current one is pretty rough.

If it's an expensive fix, i'll suck it up and ignore it :/

It'll be at least 300 bucks if you get it done at a reputable shop. That's what I think. You could try and do it yourself, which will save you a lot of money, but not look so good. So it just depends on how much you have to spend.

ooo I thought it was gonna be 1000+ 😀

Thats do-able. I'll have to get it checked out then.

Could be related to the body flex that the Del Sol is known for. Do you know if yours has be reinforced?

True Alkemyst, but he said it was a hairline crack. How can fixing that run more than 3 or 400 in reality?

That was a rhetorical question, so don't answer 😛
