I have used Deja.com for years to find answers to questions, do research, and recover my old usenet posts. I went to look something up today and to my horror discovered that deja.com has been divided up and the usenet part of the company went to google.com

google.com has "archived" the deja.com material (1 terrabyte worth) and claims it will be "searchable" in some form or other very soon.

I ran a few searches looking for current and slightly older posts and was dismayed to find no hits at all on anything I cared to look for.

A sad sad day indeed... this was probably the site I visited more than any other.

I don't think google will disappoint us. If we're lucky, they'll find a way to filter out garbage in your search results as well.

No kidding. Deja used to be my favorite research tool as well. I fooled a lot of people into thinking I was intelligent by always finding the answer to their questions on that site.
