Frick. The damn thing cost about $250.

It's completely dead, so I assume the PSU probably burned out. I tried different outlets, no luck.

Is that something I could try to order and change on my own (I've never done anything like that)? Or is the cost of owning dehumidifiers ridiculously high (I need a new one)?

check for a blown fuse inside it. might be a little plastic screw type cover on the back/near where the power cable goes in. what's the model number?

The only quality built dehumidifiers are gigantic and/or extremely expensive.

You will only find cheaply made Chinese products in the $99 - $300 range. A few years...that seems reasonable for one if you use it often.

What brand/model do you have?

Sorry - literally the second I hit "submit thread" my phone wrang and I had to rush to work.

Its a Kenmore 50501 (I think).

It's completely dead. No lights, nothing. That's why I thought the power supply had burned out.

I didn't think about fuse. I'll check that (is it safe?).

Yup, that's the one.

It sits pretty near the fuse box so that's the first thing I checked. As far as i know it only has the power button on top, but I'll check it out tomorrow (I'm going to se if I can check the inside fuse as well).

If all else fails, maybe I'll try to contact Kenmore directly.

Maybe I should invest in one of those big, tank ones.

That sounds like a humidifier (big tank ones), not a dehumidifier. ??

Jiggle the bucket.

I already told him to drop it 😀

That's the problem with dehums. There are so many safety shutoffs and sensors that you never know what is going on. Plus they are all cheaply made, so they are basically disposable.

Had something similar...worked at one house...moved and it never worked again...turned out to be the compressor which was more expensive to fix vs. getting a new one.

Was pissed but what are yah going to do.

Yours sounds like it got fried or something just from your description. If you are handy with electrically, see if you can test that it is getting power (NO IDEA HOW 🙂 )

If you are going to invest in a dehumidifer, go with a sante fe. I did this past year and its been great. You will need somewhere to dump the condensate though, as no "high end" dehumidifier includes a water tank. Makes no sense when they can pull 100+L of water per day out of the air. Not that you need that kind of performance (unless your house has a pool), but what it means is that the dehumidifier will have to run less often to do the same job. Good tradeoff if it will be in or near a living space (like mine, which is in a utility room near my basement living room).

Plus, they come with a very good warranty. At least as far as dehumidifiers go.
