O.K. have a 7 year old dehumidifier that has not been used for about 7 months during our move.
I finally get around to turning it on last night and each time it appeared to turn on the compressor the lights would VERY briefly dim in the basement and it game the sound like an engine gets when it bogs down...almost like the following
VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV (sound of the fan running)
then a VVVVMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! (lights dim like it is trying to cycle).
I tore the whole thing apart and it looks like it is a 'capacitor' on the compressor that is trying to cycle...but doesn't.
I have no experience at troubleshooting electrical kind of issues...
I am wondering if I am able to try to fix this easily? or find a way to test the electrical draw on the part? I can get a picture of the part I am talking about for reference...
I would like to avoid having to buy a new dehumidifier but also don't want to piss around with trying to fix this one if it is going to be an endless trial and error kind of thing.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee
