defragmented hard drive, now can't access files

i am running Windows XP with two partitions. When I defragmented my second (non-boot) partition, some of the files could not be accessed afterwards. It would stop responding and crash my system if I even click on certain files or folders. The weird thing is some files will respond and others won't. I'm thinking something got messed up when I was defragmenting the drive. I used a third party software called Diskeeper that is usually solid. I tried doing scandisk on my second partition but now it just freezes. I also tried the default defrag program with Windows XP to no avail.

I need some help. How do I recover these files? Does anyone know of any application that can help me?

Try running checkdisk on that drive first.

Then, see if you can download seagate tools for hdd.
See if there is a prob with the drive.

Re- recovery -
try spinrite6, recover4all, recovery2000, getdataback

Good advice! Do the long detailed run with ChkDsk or SpinRite 6. Sounds like some bad sectors that need to be remapped.
