Defragment files in NERO?

I have very little space on my 80 Gig hard drive. Mostly it is very fragmented. I tried burning some big files, in particular some movies. I burned 2 CDs. On the first one the drive seeked and the indicator light was g;oing mad but at no point did it start running. The second one eventualy managed to start the disk but it would randomly freeze. I have been noticing other data files also burning bad.

The files play fine of the hard drive if a little slowish at times. I always thought NERO burned files in defragmanted order as I can't see why or how it would not, but it seems not to do so even on high priority which I set all my files to hoping to improve burn quality. Anybody know what is going on and maybe of a way to force good defragmenting of files being burnt?

Thanks

Edit: In case anyone is wondering, I am using the latest version of Nero 5.5.

Did a full surface test and got no errors. Most of the files I burn do work they may take very long to load and run. And as before, I can hear the disk seeking like crazy. Does NERO have some problem with fragmanted files? I mean if I copy a file to an empty drive then the file should become defragmanted as it is copied in direct order of the file so why isn't the same done with burning files or at least it doesn't seem like it?

Thanks
