defrag + WD Raptor = Windows XP fail

So I defraged my HDD the other day and then restarted the OS, then it gave me a bunch of errors in the "welcome" screen

certain files werent found such as C:\.$mft or something like that...

am i not suppose to defrag SATA HDDs?
 
I'd say the problems were totally unrelated. Defragging is fine on SATA hard drives.

I'd look deeper to some kind of possible hardware failure.
