Defrag only cleaning up .0001% of my HD?

While I don't usually care about Defragging, I decided that I may as well go ahead and give my HD a six-monthly clean up.

The problem is, Defrag seems to think my HD is about 4 gig in size. It's a 15 gig HD. The progress indicator runs from 0% to 100% as normal without ever clearing a quarter of the total drive. This is not a good thing, as the remainder of my HD is visibly still all fragged up. (At least judging by the simple greenish squares.)

I've tried defragging again in Safe mode, etc. But the same thing occurs. What's the problem here? Is my PC just being a smartass?

What OS are you running? If it's 2000 then the green will never be moved. Those are system files that don't get moved. I assume win9x uses the same color scheme, but I haven't used it in ages so I don't remember. I get the same problem in 2000 occasionally. I found the best way to defrag things that are not on a system partition/or folder is to move them to one location, then back. When they get relaid on the disk the files will be whole again. This also seems to work faster too. DON'T DO THIS WITH THE PARTITION THAT'S ACTIVE, OR HAS THE WINDOWS OR WINNT FOLDER IN IT. Some files need to be at a certain place on the disk. With a large drive like yours, you can probably make folder and move everything into that, then move it back.

Good luck
