Deformatting to XP from Vista

I insertted my XP disk to reformat and downgrade back to XP, but the install Windows XP button on the start up screen is blanked out. Ive never really reformatted without just using the windows cd since its easy. I did some web research and was wondering if this would be the proper way to reformat and install XP.

I just tried putting the disk in and the menu that pops up, with the pc on, but its dimmed out. But that guide says to boot the pc from the disk and reformat from there. Would that be fine? Ive never reformatted from vista to xp.

Is your machine booting into Vista or is it booting into the disc? If it's not booting into the disc your going to need to change your boot order to make sure CD is before HDD. Also watch for the screen to say "hit any key to boot from CD"

Yes I know how to change boot order and how to do everything in that guide, but Im asking would that be the correct way to reformat and reinstall xp that is stated in the guide?

from a skim of the article, yes.

Basically you just boot to the CD and run amok. Keep in mind, you will lose any information on your computer.
