Definitive Technology speaker advice?

I've been planning to find a pair of used Definitive BP2002TL speakers for awhile, but noticed recently that they have an all new line out. The new 7002 seems to have replaced the 2002TL, and retail for the same price the 2002TL's did, but seem to have some improvements (Supercube, 2 12" radiators, 50W more amp). And the new 7000SC and 7001SC list quite a few improvements. The 7000SC is probably too expensive for me, and I don't think I want subwoofers that big. Nor is my den extremely large to need them and more wattage.

Since it'd be hard to find the new speakers used yet, would it be worth the difference getting a new pair of 7002, or 7001SC, vs. a cheaper used pair of 2002TL? Also sometimes the used sets come with the matching center and satelite speakers. I plan to use a Denon receiver with them.

These will be used equally for music and home theater.

No, since there are so many and I never know which to use (same with car stereo and guitar forums), and I remember HTF having some screwy registration and rules.

I have DefTech ProTower 400s for mains, a C2 center and BP-2X surrounds. It's a nice setup though my fronts aren't bipolar like the ones you're looking at. You mentioned that your den isn't terribly large. Have you accounted for the fact that the bipolar mains need to sit out away from the wall some distance or you'll lose the bipolar effect?

Yeah I know. My den isn't small, it's just exactly as I said, not extremely large. I forgot to measure it. How far away should they be?
Unfortunately they don't make any like those that aren't bi-polar.

There are plenty of good forums, and, no, they don't have anything screwy about the registration process:

If you get the 7001 or 7000, most likely you won't need a sub. I'd recommend getting the 7001 if you're gonna go all out, but again that's my preference...you look at the 7006, 7004, or 7002? They're a lot cheaper but still sound great.

I mentioned the 7002's in the OP. I guess they're similar to the 2002TL's, except for the improvements.

I hadn't been planning to use an external sub with the 2002TL's either, since they have built in 12's. I demo'd them back last winter.
Again, it seems all of the 7000 series have a list of other improvements. My question was if they're worth it (considering it'd be hard to find a used set yet), vs. a good used set of 2002TL's, which are almost always $1200-$1500 a pair (or even the bigger 2000TL's). I would have to A-B them, which isn't possible. So if anyone has any of the older line and then replaced them with the newer ones, they'd know.

Any now that I look closer, I can't find a difference in the 7000/7001, and the 7002, besides subwoofer size. What are the differences? Though I just noticed it says the 7000SC has a built in Supercube, the 7001SC "basically" has a built in Supercube, and the 7002 has a "Supercube technology" subwoofer. The only differences?

Definitive claims "The sonic performance of the BP7001SC is actually dramatically superior to the former flagship system, the BP3000TL", which I can't see how since the 3000TL had an 18" sub and the 7001SC has a 10".

List prices:
BP7000SC $5000/pr
BP7001SC $3500/pr
BP7002 $2200/pr

I have no experience with their newer stuff, but I never liked their older speakers, they sound too bright and boomy, totally opposite of bose. not sure if their newer stuff are any better. are you definitely getting def tech and not consider any other brands?

bah! you have been tainted with bose! teh noooooooooooooes. definitive technology is leagues ahead of bose, and thats not an opinion.

On another note, Paradigm speakers are well regarded. I wouldn't hesitate to go with any of paradigm's reference lines (there other stuff is good too) or definitive's top stuff, and would surely pick them over bose anyday.

Only thing i don't like about [some of] def's stuff is that they have built in subs, which kinda sucks because then you are limited to placement of the speaker for best and optimal bass reproduction.

Just passing through.

I've got a Def Tech 15" Sub which seems to do its job. Tested out Paradigms and B&Ws when I bought some speakers a couple months ago and preferred the B&Ws. The Paradigms were a little muddy and boomy IMO. But then again, I have a B&W bias since I had a pair before my son broke them.

haha I only used bose as an example that def tech sounds just as bad as bose except they have shrill highs and boomy bass. I totally dislike bose at all. I'd recommend paradigm or PSB, B&W for smoother highs. good luck.

I just woke up (and of course I'm on ATOT...can't even think yet)...and I know this won't be of much help, but I'm going to be selling my current setup in the near future. $3150 for Paradigm Studio 100s, CC-570 and ADP-470s, all in black. Been used for 6 months and I want more already. :) PM or email if you're interested.
