Definition of IT

IT/information technology - is it basically a broad term for jobs in the field of computers?

IT is right inbetween CS and IS, of course plenty of employers dont know where to classify their job and it involves computers, so they just say it's an IT position.

We interchangeably use IT and IS when talking about ourselves here at work. Some companies make a distinction, but in our environment we do it all anyway.

Information Systems tends to deal with the management/organization side of technology, purchasing, as well as supporting end-users (helpdesk), their computer systems, the servers and printers. Information Technology gets more into the realm of telecom and phone systems, routers, switches, LAN/WAN, remote access, and in many cases programming (although that is closer to the CS side).

So that sounds about right. CS / IT / IS Would you think that CE (engineer) would come before CS? Is there anything after IS, as in strictly management, like IO (information officers)?

There is the CIO, CSO, and CTO that I know of.
