Definitely not looking forward to tomorrow's drive for work

At 06:00 tomorrow 12 of us from work have to drive to Chicago to visit headquarters for training. We are taking two vehicles and being one of the two managers going I have to drive a minivan on the 700+ mile journey. To make it worse we have to drive back home on Thursday afternoon. 🙁

I feel your pain. Chicago traffic sucks, especially considering its construction season. Where exactly in Chicago are you travelling to?

That's about how far I used to have to drive to college... and it sucked. But at least you have 5 other people with you, so it shouldn't be too boring.

That sucks, Chicago should be a place you go to enjoy life, not suffer! It's about an hour and a half away for me now, very convenient 😀

We are actually heading to Schaumburg where headquarters are located.

Dude...ROAD TRIP!!

It could be awesome, but that really depends on your coworkers. Then again, I love driving, so...

When is it NOT construction season in Chicago? You can't drive 2 miles without seeing annoying construction ahead signs all year long...

What kind of cheap ass company do you work for that would force you to drive 700 miles one way for training? They ever hear of a plane or is wasting your time for a 10hr car-ride worthwhile?

Are you forced to pitch a tent too, or did they at least spring for the Motel 6? Let me guess, you sharing rooms too?

Spending all day in a minivan with a random crowd from work sounds miserable. Hasn't your company heard of planes or are they just that cheap?

Unless someone has bad gas or BO. Or doesn't know how to shut up for more than 15 consecutive seconds. Or is coughing constantly. Or has a bladder the size of a thimble.

wow, that's right next door to where I work. My office is located in Hoffman Estates, it's a brutal drive for me too. Its about 70 miles and anywhere between and 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours of travel time.

Most companies do this these days.
They can rent a couple of minivans for less than $1000 including the gas. That's a $2500 to $5000 savings on airfare. Having employees share rooms especially if you can pack 4 into a room saves them 75% on hotel costs.

This isn't the 60's when employees were an asset. Today employees are a liability and companies have a responsibility to their stockholders, not their employees.
I don't think it's right but I don't own even one company so I have no say in it.

He's gonna pitch a tent with other guys in a minivan?!?!?

Anyway, why didn't your company fly you? Those expenses are mostly a write-off, anyway, so why did they cheap it out? Your company sucks.
