It's hard to use what I'd consider what are my favorite albums vs. what would define my taste in music, so I'll give two sets of 3, one for my favorite albums and another that covers more of the range.

Favorites:
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
Nas - Hip Hop is Dead
Stone Temple Pilots - Core

Define my tastes:
NIN - The Fragile
Fort Minor - The Rising Tied
311 - Grassroots

Really hard to define favorites, as I have really old, old, current favorite tastes.

Led Zeppelin - IV
Loreena McKennit - The Book of Secrets
Beethoven - Anything with Moonlight Sonata, Fur Elise, etc.

Not remotely enough in just 3 albums...maybe if I did 3 mixed cds I could cover all my bases.

Someone went double-down on Floyd...

But then that is his icon...

How about this:
When studying: classical piano
Otherwise:

60&70's classic rock
90s alt-pop
anything with meaningful lyrics

Wow... I can clearly see how there's nothing objective or valuable regarding this taste-preference. It's been a while since I analysed it.
