definite software problem?

i have 1.6ghz intel 512 ram 80 gig hard drive geforce 4 mx 420 graphics card
i have been haveing this problem that every time i play a video game like wolfenstein or mostly any game that u can install on my computer it will lag up and then go back to normaland it will do this through out the whole game until i exit the game and i noticed when i start a game my cpu usage will raise to 100% and stay there until i exit the game i have checked for virus i have ran tested on my hard drive and i have ran test on my ramand everythign seems to be fine

What OS? Disable anything you don't need running in the background. Can you check taskmanager to see what's raising the cpu usage?

ok im useing windows xp pro and i have also used windows 98 and it was still giveign me the same problem and yes i have disabled all the background progs and i have also ran spybot and im and nothign in the taskmanager shoudl be raiseing it

sry about the english i was in a hurry if it is a background program how can i check for them
