i have some exercises for my medical anthropology class that involve asking/interviewing ppl to define the word "food" and listing out the kinds/categories (nutritional type, preparation, origin, etc) of foods.

if would like to offer input, please post. thanks.

I am somewhat confused by your post, however, I think I understand what you are looking for.

I define food as: Things that are consumable by humans.
Example categories are Steaks, Chops, Sausages, Burgers, Bacon, Ribs, and Roasts.

You forgot jerky, which is quite possibly the most vital food group of all.

Food: Anything that can be consumed for nutrients/energy and is edible.

like meats, grains, plants, and what not.

Is that what you are looking for?
