Definately won't ever eat at that Outback Steakhouse again

So my wife and I decided to meet at Outback Steakhouse after work for a nice dinner out. We arrived and were told it was a 10-20 min wait. Fine - no big deal. So we sit and chat about our respective days for a while. After 20 min I notice that two couples who came in after us got seated so I went up to the hostesses and asked them how much longer the wait would be. She asked what my name was and I told her. I watched her finger move down the list, hit the bottom and then move back up about 3 names.

"Oh...we can seat you at table 13 I guess." Uh huh - you passed us on the list. I didn't get really peeved about this till later, but how difficult is it to call names in order off a list? But my wife and I don't get to eat dinner together alot (different work schedules) so I didn't say anything.

So we get to table 13 and I instantly wished I had waited for another table. It sat 8 (and for the record we only have 2 people in our marriage) so it felt out of place. To make matters worse it was sandwiched between two more tables of 8 which were filled with young families with small children and babies. This puts me more on edge since it seems like we always get seated next to families that will let their babies cry through dinner - and now there are now four chances of that happening.

Whatever - my wife wants steak and I do too - kinda (my patience is waning)

So we sit and look at the menu and wait.....and wait.....and wait. After at least 15 minutes (I started timing the wait after a while) I go ask the hostess if there was someone working that section. She looked annoyed and said she would send someone over.

So a waitress comes over finally and says "Sorry about the wait. I thought you guys were waiting for other people to join you." *twitch* At least come ask if we want anything to drink then

We finally order

After another long wait my wife's food finally comes out. Apparently there was a mistake with mine and it needed to be re-cooked <- remember that, its important later

*twitch*

At least they didn't let my wifes food get cold and I don't mind if she eats first

The manager comes over and apologizes for the delay on my food and says he will do half off for my meal. Fine.

My wife is about half done with her meal when mines comes out. I look at it skeptically but cut into it anyway. Needless to say the live cow looked quite annoyed at me as I cut into its side and blood shot out and hit me in the eye. Definatelly not medium well done. Recooked my ass

*twitch*

I send it back

My wife finishes her meal (she wanted to wait but I told her not to. Who likes cold food?)

My steak comes back out - or at least a different one. They had at least killed it this time but the only cooking it got seemed to be when it passed the grill on the way out. And it had different sides. Who asked for broccoli? Not me and it wasn't on the last plate. So I ask our waitress about it.

"Oh no - I think I brought you the wrong plate!"

Seriously? I waited another 15 minutes for a different rare steak? *twitch*

She goes back to get the right one. After waiting 5 minutes I was done. Game over. Where's the manager? 1.5 hours and I don't have my food

They call him over. I meet him halfway. I calmly point out that I was still waiting for my steak and that I was brought the wrong meal. I go on to tell him that I don't think a table for 8 is a nice environment for a couple to have dinner at. Not to mention that I had to find my own waitress

He starts apologizing again. And I politely tell him that there is no way in hell that I am paying for our meal. He says he totally understands and gives us a coupon for a free meal. I ask him if it was redeemable at other locations.
"Yes."
"Good."

So my wife and I leave and go to Red Robin where we are seated as soon as we walk in, have our drinks delivered about 2 minutes later, my burger was the correct one, properly cooked and the price point was 1/3 of what it would have been at Outback

Now I am not trying to degrade any servers out there, but how friggen hard is it to do your job right? I know some people who are servers and, while they are pretty dumb, they do their job right. And for the love of god - when I send a steak back because its rare don't bring me another person's damn meal! :|

And the hostess?! Your job is even easier! See name on list - call name. See next name on list - call name. Don't skip around, just go straight down. People get pissed if you don't seat them

Lord, I am still so flabbergasted I can't rant properly. I just can't understand how a restaurant....how did our meal get messed up this badly? I mean....did she not notice that it was a different meal. And recooked? It wasn't cooked when I got it. And...she brought me the...WRONG...MEAL! After bringing me the RIGHT ONE! GAH!

chain restaurants like outback, applebees, etc. are really hit and miss - some are outstanding, others are terrible.

good job keeping your cool and not causing a scene/ruckus though . you've got quite a bit of self-control :p

I don't really like outback. Their service is pretty meh, I'm not a big fan of steak and their food costs a lot. Especially when chili's has most of the same stuff, with more of the stuff I like.

Yeah, a cool and calm letter to corporate should be good. As someone said though, chains are hit or miss on service and even food quality.

I've seen people do that and the only thing I think of them is that they are extreme assholes. Seriously, if you want to look like a complete tool in front of a bunch of strangers that's a good way to do it. I don't care how right you are or how right you think you are.

yea, my wife and I went to one years ago when the "bloomin onion" was all the rage. we ordered steak and the onion thing. we were not impressed at all, very mediocre and $$$$. we have never been back and dont plan on it. there are many other places to get a good steak at half the cost.

The reason why tips should be earned and not expected.

yep. also, if service is excellent, be sure to tip at least 20%. if you can't afford to tip, you shouldn't be eating out. stick to McDonalds etc.

Yeah, I absolutely despise the Outback radio commercials. Not a fan at all of that place.

Yeah - there was no tip. Long wait for drinks + long wait for food + wrong food = no tip.

As for the coupons - sorry guys but they are good at other Outbacks so I am sure we will find a use for them :p

Two years ago the girlfriend and I went to an Outback.

We get seated, order drinks and order food.

The food comes out normal time. As we begin to eat water starts dripping on my girlfriend food, and then starts pouring down.

Look up and there was a nice brown mildew panel with water pouring down.

The manager wouldnt give us free food and only offered 50% off.

We havent been back since

This was the proper route from the start. I have always been impressed with Red Robin. I'm getting hungry!

I saw no reason to ruin other people's dinner - just because I am having a bad dinner doesn't mean they have to. I usually try to be calm (except when driving)

Yeah - a bit of exaggeration on my part, but you get the idea :)

Too bad we only have chain restaurants to choose from for sit down meals around here :(
