Defiance

I made it in for the last stress test but missed it was at work meh.

Want to see how it plays so far.

Give minimal chance for the game or show. Actually I'd say the show will probably hurt the game.

Surprised no one has talked about this given that they just had their final beta weekend this past weekend. Got into the beta, played and had fun, although I wonder about how long it can keep my interest. Gaming friends have also been playing FireFall recently and indicated that may be more interesting -- will give that beta a try before deciding whether to purchase Defiance or not.

The really quick explanation of Defiance is a Borderlands MMO -- it's an FPS but with RPG-lite loot. It also has dynamic events that are similar in style to the rifts in Rift.

They only had the first two regions available in the beta, and I don't even know how far I got, but the combat was pretty easy for the most part. I'm hoping that the game gets more difficult as you continue to progress, because the damage the enemies did was laughable and the shields recharge way too quickly (found a shield that recharges after 3 seconds of taking no damage which is as easy as hiding behind the nearest corner). Grenade at my feet? No worries, I could eat two before I'd have to think about moving, might as well keep headshotting away.

I played it this weekend and it was full of glitches. You could walk within 20 feet of the enemy before they reacted, audio cutouts when the boss entered. I got a boss intro twice in a row after I had already beaten it. Water textures where they shouldn't be and the map telling me to go to the wrong objectives.

hmm I watched some gameplay footage, thought it looked really good and ordered it thinking I could play the beta. Missed it I guess lol. Looking forward to trying it! I'm always willing to give a FPS PvE shooter a chance.

Put in about 5 hours yesterday.. The game is really really fun despite it's flaws. #1 being communication with other players, but maybe I haven't fully figured that out yet...

It definately suffers from being on consoles, but once you get use to the controls they aren't too bad. The dialog/audio I think is well done, but some animations are a little lacking, such as lip movement and even the way one guy runs.

There is a *lot* to do. It has a very Borderlands feel to it, which I think is a good thing. The Arkfalls are really fun to stumble upon or seek out and complete with a bunch of other players, at the end of them there is a scoreboard which is cool too. You all basically fight off waves of enemies until the end and are then rewarded with loots.

I've only been in one "dungeon" so far in an episodic story. It was pretty fun, and in there I found a one-time use uber weapon that was a blast using.

The skill-grid is confusing, I'm not sure what requirements I need to meet to unlock new skills, but there are a lot of them which is good.. You can mod weapons which is nice but so far I haven't found any worthwhile mods.

You can level up weapon types, like Borderlands, but also specific weapons themselves. Haven't progressed 1 weapon too far yet as I keep replacing it so I'm not entirely sure what it does.

I really like it the combat. It's so refreshing vs. most MMOs where it's all dice rolls. Heatshots, weak spots, dodging grenades, stuff like most shooters have these days are all part of this game. Skill based combat, good stuff.

After playing games on my PC, going to Xbox to play Defiance made my eyes hurt. Add to the fact I feel the game is very repetitive. Almost liked a poor mans Borderlands with weak story.

It's in fucking beta. What do you expect, a game that's been out for 10 years with new weekly content? rofl

Well it officially released this morning, but they opened up servers yesterday.

Redinit hates it, I get that, but why he chose to play it on Xbox when he has a PC is beyond me. I thought it looks pretty good on my PC at 1080p. He already made it clear he thinks it sucks in his first post. Not sure why he felt the need to come and repeat his feelings for it using different words.

A poor mans Borderlands, makes a lot of sense considering that it currently costs $60. lol

The thing that worries me about this game is the pvp. Like during these arkfalls, you cant attack other players can you?

How bad is the grind? No monthy sub means it might be worth it to play awhile.

If I am understanding it right, it's going to be a very long grind. The max EGO right now is 5000. I've played 5hrs, my EGO is 134.

If the game can stay interesting long enough to reach 5000 I will be very impressed lol

The in-game chat is so horrible you may as well play a single player game. Unless you have a guild with a voice chat server do not expect much interaction. Chat messages only stay on screen a few seconds, most people do not even see them.

There is built in voip, but no Push to Talk implementation. This makes for a loud/annoying ecperience.

Meh, dont really care about playing with other people. Care about playing against other people.

this game kinda interests me because of being an MMO without the classic boring mmo aspects like casting bars, standing still pressing 1,2,3...1,2,3...1,2,3...

but i dont know... i dont feel mentally capable of resisting another MMO 😛
