Defective motherboard?

Recently I've been having instability problems with my PC, such as lockups, programs crashing, and blue screens. I assumed the problems were related to memory, so I ran memtest a few times, but I received no errors. I figured the problem might be that one of the ram modules is somehow defective, so I decided to try booting with each one individually and running memtest. Surpringly, neither would boot seperately. My PC would only boot with both of them in their slots. I'm familiar with my motherboard, so I know that I'm not putting them in the wrong slots. I also tried booting them individually on another PC, and they worked fine. I used the single module from the other PC in mine and I had the same problem. Is it possible that the motherboard is defective?

Edit:
Forgot to add my system specs

Athlon 64 3200+ Venice
DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D
2x512 Crucial Ballistix PC3200
BFG 6800GT
WD Raptor 74 GB
FSP 500W

The memory controller is on the CPU die, right?

Well on my system, the motherboard was a Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus, so the memory controller was on the mobo.

Quite possibly the RAM slot died. Have you used any other RAM slots?

I forgot to try booting from the third slot. It actually worked and I managed to get into the bios and run memtest. I guess the problem is a dead RAM slot after all. Is it possible to replace the dead one or do I have to RMA the entire board?

The DFI board is extremly picky w/ memory, make sure your using the Orange slots, and try raising the voltage to 2.7 or 2.8V before you give up on the system, you may also want to try and relax the memory timings aswell. I'd check out the DFI street forums and get some additional advise before I would give up on that board.
