Defective burner or cd's?

Im using an old sony dvd burner, and lately nero has been having alot of 'disk write errors' when burning cd's/dvd's. Is there a program i can use to test my burner?..or the other possiblity i can think of is that the cd's and dvd's im using..i bought from future shop on boxing day for like 5$ a spindle. soo im not sure if they were just trying to get ride of some defective crap.

Nero CD speed, burn a test disc and then read it back.

Well, i created a test data disk, and i got thiss message half way through,

"Error!, WRITE ERROR - RECOVERY FAILED (030C08)"

so does that mean it's the burner or the cd?

Hmm, what CDs are you using?

TY make the best ones, followed by verbatim.

Try using a pressed CD (the newer and less scratched the better) and seeing if your burner can do a full test on it.

I'm using Hp cd's, yeah i've been using new cd's still can't do a test data disk

Will the drive read CDs? Use nero to do a disc test on a comercial CD to see if the drive can manage that.
