I live in vegas but didnt get to attend defcon...company instead wants to send me to siggraph next week. defcon would've at least been applicable...but siggraph will have at least a better ratio of female attendies.

Sadly its hardpressed to call it underground anymore. Maybe a few years back, but the scene has definately changed. Heck, after my last session I shared a cab with the guy that runs MS's internal release security. Different crowd.
