Default Sex Position?

This might get locked, but before you do... know that this isn't really a joke... it is a real scientific question.... kinda.

Does the human species have a "normal" sex position?

Most animals copulate in the "doggy style" position... but humans are mainly upright beings. If we went back in time to the early early homo sapiens, what sex position do you think they would be using?

The most common in our society seems to be "missionary", but I don't think there are many (if any) animals that also use this.

What do you guys think?
 
I'd say missionary, though it is clearly doggy for many creatures. I think even for orangutans it may be doggy, but I'd bet most people start off with missionary and it's the old faithful to many.
 
He's not asking what's most popular or which you prefer or what's more intimate, he's asking which is the scientific default position for reproduction.

Scientifically I would say Doggie style but I would say the default position is Missionary... I would think most people do this the first few times they have sex.
 
Interesting thread.

I have taken a shine to the "woman on top, grasping the blades of the ceiling fan and getting the rotation action going" position.

Works quite well, actually. Very little physical effort on the part of either partner, yet massive stimulation to both parties is afforded by the spinning action of the fan.

Just remember to keep the fan on LOW, lest she dry out and you get the friction burn of a lifetime. :Q

I really doubt that the average human couples more in doggie than in missionary. We're not monkeys, who likely do doggie the most.

Socially, missionary.

Personally, I don't see the attraction in missionary. It isn't all that intimate. Spooning and front-side spooning (That's spooning while facing each other) are much closer contact.
 
A lot of people would consider Missionary as the default position, but is it really so, or was that just ingrained into the Western cultural psyche by an overzealously antisexual Catholic Church?
 
There's evidence to support that the reasons women have breasts is to attract men, since man does not, by default, have sex from behind (a lot of animals have crazy asses to attract mates, since they all hump from behind). So the theory goes that humans needed something in front.

sounds nice, but something in the back of my head tells me that ceiling fans arent that powerful

That's what I just posted...doggie might not be the most popular, but it's the scientific default.
I think almost everyone starts with missionary (I started girl on top) so that would be the default one by social standards.
