I'm trying to install a Q8300 into my motherboard. I'm replacing my current E2200
I have this mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059

http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downl....aspx?pid=2629

It supports the 8300. but I think I might need to update the bios first?

Ok, so i have version F6 and the gigabyte site says version F9 is needed for the quad cores.

i tried using the Qflash utility on the motherboard. But it's not recognizing that I'm using a flash drive. The manual said a flashdrive in Fat 32 format will work, which is what I did. It's not working though. Doesn't recognize that i have it in.

ahh, should i just trying to install the cpu without flashing the bios?
Or should I try that @bios program for gigabyte that can flash it through Windows?

hmm, default shouldn't be in topic title. Don't know why i put that there.

1. Your links do not work.
2. Avoid the @bios.
3. Have you gone through the USB support options in the BIOS? Like legacy USB?
4. What type/size of flashdrive? USB support used to be inconsistent.

I have used @bios to update my board and had no troubles, but didn't use the internet option, I downloaded the bios first.

Don't know what happens if the bios doesn't recognize the cpu, maybe it won't boot so the best option should be to update first, try to download a dos boot cd and the dos bios updater.

I have a very similar question so let me ask it here (if the OP doesn't mind!)
- Intel DG33FB mobo (no overclocking possible)
- Current BIOS version, CPU: 0407, Core 2 E7200
- Proposed BIOS version, CPU: 0484, Core 2 E8400

Not thinking of upgrading to Core 2 Quad as I don't do video editing/ 3D rendering. Just need a speed bump for gaming, flash, bootup etc...

Need to update BIOS as that's the min version needed to use E8400 on this board (i.e. 0484, as per the Intel website)..

Tried the .ISO BIOS update method (burn to CD and boot) but got the scare of my life when it just blanked the display and went on beeping and blinking for upwards of 20 mins. On hard boot it gave a 'CRC checksum error' the first time and then has been working smoothly on BIOS version 0407 (thank god!)

So again:
- Will the E8400 work on the 0407 BIOS
- Is there any other more suitable way of upgrading the BIOS
- Should I consider the latest BIOS version (0572) instead of the min. version required for E8400 (i.e. 0484)
- Should I consider E8500 as well as I can't overclock the E8400 on this mobo?

Folks apologies for the bump, but my query is still open. Or should I be posting this in a separate thread?
