Default Path for TWAIN Temp Directory

I'm having an issue with default directories and paths in Windows, mostly for my scanner. I have a Lexmark X1270 All-In-One and I like to restore photos and things of that sort. The scanner is quite good and is capable of resolutions exceeding 9600 DPI. However, since I partitioned my hard disk I'm limited to roughly 600 DPI for up to a 5x7 photo. I've tried using the Windows Disk Management tool to utilize the default path under Local Settings per user ID. I've come up short as it doesn't seem to like that very much. What options do I have and/or what file(s) can I edit?
