Default browser font on Linux distros?

most of the distros seem to use the same font on their browsers, be it Firefox, be it Seamonkey, be it Opera. i checked those browsers' OPTIONS dialog box and, from what i could tell, the font used is "Sans Serif". however, when i copy the TTF file to Windows, the font does not look the same. maybe i'm not copying the right font.... :-s

any suggestions?

that's odd. i've tried both of them and they dont look the same on Windows. is there any particular characteristic of Linux that could make the font appear different on the two OSs?

I've always been able to tell the difference between the two and just accepted that I don't like how Windows renders fonts., having said that it could be the DPI setting.
