I've been considering a deep tissue massage to sooth my constantly sore back and shoulders. I have a high pain tolerance and need something better then the chiropractor (which did nothing for me). Anybody have any first hand experience on what to expect price wise and if you feel its personally worth it?

SagaLore and I have different views on this. He has a bad spot in his back/shoulder area and finds much relief. You will be sort the day following though, this is normal. I didn't start going until I was pregnant, which makes your body more sensitive, and I'm not a huge fan. It's ok, but I can't stand intense work on muscles while pregnant it seems. Price depends on the masseuse, but typically around $100 +/- $20 I think is normal for an hour. There should be a consultation previous to the person starting to massage, and he/she should ask each time you arrive if there are any particular problem areas that day.

as a CMT in Colorado if you pay anymore than 60 bucks is too much. all i can say is give it a try and see if it works for you or not.

i've got them a few times through my chiropractor. i have upper back muscle problems from motorcycles and poor ergonomics at my desk. it can really hurt while you're there, but it feels great afterwords getting those tight muscles streched out.

they bill $120 to insurance companies, the insurance negotiated rate is $66.60, but the cash rate is $50 for an hour.

Price of any service depends largely on where you live. I live in a large, urban/suburban area where services cost more because people make more. I wouldn't expect to pay the same if I were still living the in Adirondack Mountains in NY.

massage therapy is about the same across the county. it depends on where you go. if you go to a upscale massage studio you will pay more and all you are paying for is the ambiance and decor . if you go to a one therapist studio like mine you will pay less. the average rate is 60 bucks. Ive been doing this for 7 years so i kinda know the trade.

I live in the DC area and got a deep tissue massage. It was around 90 bucks and was pretty sweet.
