Deep Purple...

is this band more forgotten about than most? they have some pretty good songs, but you very rarely hear people talking about them like you do a lot of other bands.

DP has to be wayyy up there in age right?

I actually like Perfect Strangers over their ubiquitous; Smoke on the Water.

I saw them live when I was a teenager (Perfect Strangers or the one after that). It was one of the best shows I've ever seen, even though it was in a huge stadium and they were old geezers.

They opened with Perfect Strangers...the lights were off and that sharp keyboard intro just cut through the dark. Then, just as the drums kicked in, these big purple lights flashed on and there was Ritchie Blackmore at the front of the stage just ripping into the opening guitar riff while purple smoke swirled around him...and the crowd went fvcking wild!

I thought I'd like their old classics the best (Smoke On The Water, Highway Star, My Woman From Tokyo, etc.) but the opening track and Knocking At Your Back Door were only topped by Sweet Child In Time. It was incredible. Very high energy for a bunch of fossils.

smoke on the water...love that tune...used to play pinball at an arcade when I was younger and that tune was always rockin out

I saw them on that tour too and it was incredible. It was the first time i'd seen them and I was blown away. John Lord's keyboard solo/duet with Blackmore was crazy as was the light show. If I recall correctly, they had a very nice laser show.

Definitely an underrated band. There have been several incarnations of that band the one during the Perfect Strangers tour was the best IMO.

The Perfect Strangers album rocks and I highly recommend it.
