Deeko, this one is for you.
I won't attack you like other have. I won't name call, insult, or flame you for your opinions. I will however present some real artists in the music business that have the musical prowess that you are asking us to provide. I am no professional musician. I too played in the HS band. I am just an average guy with an adoration for good music. I have been a member at AT since Oct 99, and joined the BBS way back in Nov 98. I don't post much. I only post when I feel moved to do so.
I have been enlightened by those who listen to punk, ska, trance, swing, classical, hip hop, reggae, and pop and I thank them for it. Without the appreciation of many forms of music we are but a person who can only walk. But listen to those flutes, hear the crunch of the guitar, breathe the emotional presence of those vocals and run, skip, leap, jump for we now share a new utopia of musical bliss.
I submit to you a miniscule sample of songs from worthy artists. I give you the opportunity to not prove others right or make me seem smarter than you. No I give you the chance to experience something different.
I have been to your webpage. You list napster as a source of music. I would hope that you would follow my lead and download the following tracks from either napster or my free drive account.
Problem with the freedrive account is that you must have one to access mine.
I suggest you get a free drive account and then visit this link so that you may hear the tracks as I hear them. http://www.freedrive.com/ASP/PostFolderShortcut.asp?fsc=1468381
(If you do get a freedrive account, the link to my folder will appear in the left part of the screen. The folder is called "UnderScore's Files"😉
All but one of the songs can be found at my freedrive account.
And onto the songs:
Billy Joel - singer, songwriter, composer, The Piano Man
From Billy Joel download "The Longest Time" and "Tell Her About It".
The first of the two songs demonstrate his skills in arranging powerful and beautiful harmonies. Listen to the second to hear him sing higher up..
Steve Perry - lead singer of the band Journey. A small portion of Journey's hits is "Don't Stop Believing", "Faithfully", and "Lights".
Download "Lights" and Steve Perry's solo track "oh Sherry". In the first track you will hear layering and multi-part harmonies. In the second song you will find his dynamic voice evoking quite some emotion.
REO Speedwagon - 1980s Rock Band - Download "Roll With The Changes"
Again you will hear lead/backup harmonies and even instrumental solos.
Rush - Canadian Power Rock Trio - "Test for Echo" Listen to this track. Try to find the downbeats of the music, I can't. Rush is known for creating complex patterns and rhythyms. Neil Peart is arguably the best rock drummer. The voice of lead singer Geddy Lee may not me liked by all but one can not refute his skillful singing.
Mr. Mister - "Kyrie". This song contains the following Latin words: "kyrie eleison" which means "Lord, have mercy." No rock improvisational guitar/bass solos here. Just pure emotion pouring through from the lead singer.
Toto - band with a weird name. Their intricate song: "Africa". The vocals of this moving song provoke such passion and envelopes us further is their audible tapestry.
Chicago - Call On Me - This was released in 1974. This song has brass ( I read that you played the trombone)
Practically the whole group ( 7 of them I think) sings. They may back the lead singer when they aren't playing their trombone or sax or trumpet or bass or keyboard or guitars. Detailed percussion adds a unique flavor to the song.
Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son - This song has guitar solos, keyboard solos, different sections with different rhythms, and vocals that rock too.
