i was thinking of piecing together a little system with svideo and composite out and a couple of usb(wireless, if i can find them) controllers to play old school NES and game boy games

i figure a p2 266, 128 megs of ram and a 4.3 gig drive should do the trick

anyone know of an emulator that can be controlled by the usb controller that way i can have it run at startup and choose what rom to load with that rather than having to have a keyboard or mouse?

GameEx works with my cordless wingman. Don't know how well it'll run on you hardware, but it's free so it's worth a shot. I use it through MCE to play SNES games. Works great. The HTPC features might also be nice for your project.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention...you still need to download and install an emulator. GameEx is just a frontend.

I know this is the wrong forum...but, how does an NES emulator work. My 5 yr old would love playing the old school NES games. Are they free?

Good idea OP. Throw it on a P300 laptop tucked behind the TV with the external cards required, and you're sailing.

I'm not joking. I just played a couple games of Bases Loaded II over Thanksgiving break, and I'll probably do some more when I'm home for Christmas. Also can't forget Contra, Jackal, Double Dribble, Double Dragon, etc. They all work without even blowing on them. :D

FCEU is a great NES emulator that supports multitap through USB connections I think. I use an Xbox controller with a modified extension cable to play all my ROMs. Can get it at fceultra.sourceforge.net I think.

Dear God, get a modded xbox with emulators and roms. You will never regret it.

My kids play DK country 1,2,3 on it all the time and I fire up SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV every once in a while.

Emus play perfect on xbox due to the console/hardware factor and there are ZERO drivers to load.

Good Luck
