Dedicated mobile hotspot

Does anyone have any recommendations for a dedicated mobile hotspot and no-contract service plan?

Right now, I'm looking at AT&T Velocity 4G LTE for $60, then AT&T for 5GB/$50 or 2GB/$25 for a 30 day plan. Can I do better (less expensive)? I don't need a lot of speed (mostly accessing computers via remote desktop).

I'm looking for a dedicated device/plan, because this device/plan needs to be shared among 3-5 different people at different days/months.

I use a boost mobile cell phone. 3gb for $35/month a la carte, or $30 for autowithdrawl. I use the a la carte method. Data gets throttled to ~16KBs after the high speed allotment gets depleted, but data is theoretically unlimited. Bonus is it works as a cell phone(unlimited voice/text), and it's pocketable, running off its battery.

You'd have to look it up. It's Sprint network. I'm using a Boost Kyocera I bought new from Walmart. It was $40-$50. It's a crappy phone, but it's probably my favorite phone purchase. It does everything I ask of it, just a little crappier. None of which really applies for using it as a hotspot.

I believe all the phones sold in their boxes have hotspot enabled, and they have sim cards you can put in your own phone, but I suppose there could be rom compatibility issues with regards to hotspot using a phone that didn't start life on their network. Not sure tbh. If I were to do that, I'd go to Walmart and read boxes. They have a few phones for <$100. That's impulse purchase price, and probably less likelihood of hassles.
