The hazards of criminalization, from Andrew Sullivan's blog.

I work as an attorney and have my own successful practice in San Francisco. I also do a bit of family law and have represented many educated, successful professional parents whose use of marijuana has often been used by the other party to the case as a means to have my clients ordered into some kind of rehab if they want to see their kids.

Once this almost happened in a case where the opposing counsel was someone with whom I had gotten high at a conference. I politely offered to her that I would admit in open court that I had gotten high with her unless she withdrew her request. She did, and probably had a hell of a time explaining that to her client.

Yet, I keep hearing from the legalization activists side of the debate "marijuana has caused 0 deaths." Something just doesn't add up, who's wrong? Forgive my ignorance in this issue.
Obviously inhaling heated smoke isn't great for your lungs. The claim about it having more carcinogens than cigarettes sounds like FUD, though. I think there are a few studies out there that claim this, but my understanding is that most have not found any significant correlation between cannabis smoke and lung cancer.

Also, this is kind of a moot point if you vaporize it.

well... my father has been a pastor for going on 30 years, many people have and still do come to him for counciling. I've seen first hand, almost a quarter centurys worth of peoples whose lives and families were ruined by addiction to drugs and alcohol - overdose, rapes & other sex abuses, jailed for fighting, physical and verbal abuse of family, unwed/unwanted pregnancies, divorces, people losing their jobs/houses, etc.

It might be peoples rights to fuck up their own lives, but ill be damned if I just sit and watch it happen. its fun for individuals, its destructive for families. go sit in an addiction center for a few days, listen to sob story after sob story, and then call me closed minded.

And for every person who has a sob story like this, there are 10 who it didn't affect their lives much at all. Ever been to a college campus?

Also, every problem you described above goes hand in hand with being an alcoholic (which you did mention). Do you also oppose the sale of alcohol, and would be willing to pass a law with long jail sentences for any person who drinks it?

I guess you aren't too familiar with our friend sao. The answer is yes, to that question and any other that deals with personal freedoms. Oh, except for food. Our boy sao is an eater.

The technical term is borderline diabetic with IGA nephropathy and a family history of thyroid disease, however my health problems are none of your concern.

Somehow I'm thinking your "medication" comes in super sizes from the local McDonald's.

Maybe I am mean, or just don't like sao, but I am pretty sure I just laughed my balls off......

and I am not even stoned.

Here's a good one. Alcohol and cigarettes have killed more people than Marijuana, LSD and crack combined.

Said for effect, but the think with marijuana is that I don't think anyone has been proven to have been killed by it.
