Decreased screen size = increased performance?

Please could someone tell me:

Graphics cards allow you to reposition and resize a screen for a given resolution without using the monitor controls. Do you gain/lose performance if you select the smallest/largest sized screen for a given resolution using the graphics card controls?

nope. it's the monitor doing that work, or reduced work rather.
