I recently stumbled upon an old article where a custom modder put a grayscale image unto a clear acrylic side panel:

The company he used was http://www.thepcmodshop.com/
This company seems to have gone out of business.

*Does anyone know what happened to thepcmodshop?
*Are there any alternative companies that provides grayscale laser etching?
*Are there any companies that provide grayscale tattoo/decal/applique that can achieve the same thing?
