Deconstructing God and the bible

Does God exist?
If he does exist then why does evil exist?
Why do good people suffer?


I'm sure most people have wondered about those issues and more than likely you can find a variety of different answers. Some people flat out don't believe in a God like entity, some believe that God exists within the individual and still some people feel that God is a just a tool for religions to get rich.

I was raised in a religious household, so I basically grew up beleiving what the bible said without much question. However now that I'm a bit older and wiser (at least I hope so) I no longer take things at face value. I feel the need to critically question and ultimately test out beliefs instead of just blindly accepting them.


So what are you thoughts on God and the bible?
Do you beleive God exists?
Is the bible any different from any other book?




I do beleive in God but I find myself at odds with things in the bible. In particular the birth of sin and the current state of the world, I have big issues with these 2 things but I'll get into that later.


So feel free to add your comments, if you're an agnostic, an theist, a Pope or whatever jump right in.

I would have no problem with specific questions regarding topics such as religion, but stuff like this is just a total waste of everyone's time.

There isn't one I guess, but I think we can all tell the difference between an obvious bit of flamebait and a serious question. I mean, he asked 6 amazingly broad questions in a single post...I guess he's all encouraged by the number of posts in yesterday's evolution thread.

it's not arrogance. just like history is written by the victors, God is defined by the victors. The judeo / christian culture won the battle of religions: hence their GOD is THE GOD.

Its not a egocentric thing or any of the other descriptions you used, I'm basically speaking from my own personal experience and knowledge. Since I don't know much about religions that worship multiple Gods I contained my post to the things I'm most familiar with. But it by no means bars anyone from speaking about what they feel is relevant.

As for the others like you question, I can't speak for anyone besides myself.
