Decoding Windows 98 SE error messages

Hello,
I have been having major computer problems for the past couple months. I have been getting some good advice from everyone here, but nothing seems to work. I either get the blue screen of death or a lock up and reboot. I have finally started writing down all the error codes and what I was doing at the time. Does anyone know of a place or magazine that might help me translate some of them. I would appreciate any help possible. Thanks.

Blue Screens of Death are secret messages to you from Tux the Penguin telling you to format that piece of sh!t Windows and to install Linux.

I would go Linux if everything were more compatible. I really don't like Windows either but unfortunately, it's the most compatible.

I did a thorough ScanDisk about a month ago and it didn't seem to work. I have reformatted since then and should probably do it again. Anything's worth a shot. Thanks.

Odds are if you did a complete reformat and that didn't help that you have a hardware issue. Try 1 more format/re-install except add your software back in 1 program at a time. Give yourself some time to test the system out before installing another. If you get blue screens with just the OS, then most likely you have a hardware problem. If it doesn't happen until you install a particular program, you have a software issue.

I think the book with the directions for building a perpetual motion machine has an appendix which lists what Windows' error messages mean.

Thanks for all the help guys. After checking all the above suggestions I figured out it was a hardware issue. I tried changing out every part except the board and chip and a couple reformat/installs and still the same errors. I finally just broke down and got the Epox EP-8K7A, which I must say is an awesome board. It works perfectly. Thanks again everyone.
