Whats the deal with the newest series of dell latitudes? The D series were tanks, super nice build quality. The new ones I agree look stylish, but are flimsy, hinges last about a year of 5-6 open closes per day.... Latitudes are supposed to be their business grade units.

I have a Dell work laptop. It is a couple years old, sandy bridge generation I believe. It has a nice screen and looks nice, but the older one that I was using previously still works, and actually has much more reliable wireless. So yes, I was kind of disappointed in the new one. At least it was a work machine and I didnt have to pay for it. I was ready to have IT set up a factory service call, but suddenly it has started working again.

I use a latitude e6420 (the e6430's are the same build) and I think it is built quite well. I use it for personal use, so it does indeed get more use than a work laptop and moved around more than a work laptop.

Yes I looked at some last week and wasn't all that thrilled with them, they're like Acer now with their V5 series- they look great but quality wise they're just... not quite there anymore. I think Asus and Lenovo still makes good business laptops. I'd still go for Dell on mid-range mainstream laptops though.

I also notice dell quality went way down to the point that I don't even get laptop from them anymore with the exception of the workstation M series.

I wouldn't touch Asus either. Had bad experience with it. I like thinkpad X series. They've been reliable so far (with the exception of the X60 heat issue).

Reminds me of when Michael Dell retired years ago. Quality went to pot. He came back and things improved. Has he again "retired?"
