"It's a fact of American history that our founders were religious men, and to hide this fact from young fifth-graders in the name of political correctness is outrageous and shameful," said Williams' attorney, Terry Thompson.

Lest we forget, Thomas Jefferson was NOT--repeat--NOT a Christian. He was a DEIST, which is to say that he believed in a God, but he did not specifically believe in the Christian God. He thought Jesus was a brilliant TEACHER of Ethics, but he did NOT believe in the Virgin Birth, nor the resurrection nor the ascent to Heaven.

The Declaration of Independence is in NO WAY a Christian document.

yes the fundy christians of today like to hide the fact that they were diests. they believed in a god of nature, but considered organized religion rather abhorent. jefferson thought the bible was written by ignorant unlettered men for example, very ugly things. thomas payne .. u know the guy that wrote common sense was practically an athiest. they were men of reason, not the ignorant righteous f*cks who ahve taken over religion today. they knew history well, that once religion mixes with power it is used to exclude condemn and destroy the other. its inevitable.

The principal was an idiot if she thought that she could ban any historical readings from the class. She would better to have gone after his lesson plans, not the readings. She's just asking for trouble, and the whole thing sounds really quirky to me.
