I restained my deck last year. The color is still great but I have noticed the water doesn't bead anymore. Should I just apply another coat to the 'floor' (The spindles seem fine)? What about a clear water proofing coat?

Thanks guys!

Does the type of waterproofer matter in terms of what stain its used with? I used Sikkens SRD oil based semi-transparent

check with the sales person at home depot. pretty sure there are different types.

God, please don't buy your wood protection products from Home Depot. And don't use a sealant on wood unless you want it to rot from the bottom up while its getting sun damaged from the top down.

You had the right idea with an oil based penetrating stain. Now just apply a better one. I strongly recommend the TWP products. Keep in mind that you will only get two years out of even the best product.

Should I do anything for this year since the water isn't beading? Or just re-coat next year (since the color is still good)

I would remove the remnants of the old pigment with a wood cleaner such as Defy. Let the wood dry for two days and then apply two coats of a quality stain about 45 minutes apart.

If this is cedar also use a brigtener after cleaning.

I see you are in Mich. This winter was very hard on my decks. I've even lost pigment on some areas. Since we had zero snow to act as a protective covering, we had all that extra sun damage. This week was perfect weather to work on them too, but I really wasn't thinking about it and realized it too late. This coming week looks to be excellent weather for deck work too.
