Have a side job fixing computers after my full time job. Recently, I worked on a laptop that needed a new mobo, but the guy didn't wanna pay for the parts. He was supposed to come by after thanksgiving weekend to pick it up but he doesn't answer his phone anymore. I believe he just wanted to ditch the laptop and not pay me as well.

Luckily for me, I was in the market for a new HDD for my laptop. As I was researching the one from his, i found out that it is hackable to work in the xbox 360. Now, I only have the 20gb hdd in mine right now and the only game I have loaded on their is a couple of arcade games and GTA4 (fucking save got erased when i installed it too ).

Question, where should I put the new HDD, xbox or laptop (laptop has 1gb/60gb of free space left after uninstalling unnecesarry junk)?

From what I hear it's a giant PITA to make these work on the 360 properly. At the risk of losing all your data down the road if it doesn't work right I wouldn't use it on the 360.

really? the directions don't seem all too bad. The only part that seems tricky is extracting the old hdd ID to put into the new one.

I don't know, just going off what I heard and the little I read up on. Maybe this particular drives works better, or they've gotten better at getting the drives to work.

No, there's not - take it from someone who has an elite. I only play like 3 of the 10 games I have installed! hah

Oh, LOL. I only have about 10 games as well and I only play GTA4, Virtua Tennis and Castle Crashers right now (too addicted to WoW). Plus I stream everything from my desktop (movies, music) and netflix. Thanks guys.....always seems like a simpler decisions when you write it down!

Wanna trade drives? I have too many RB2 songs on my 20gig to install any games. With my drive I'll include a fiver, a cookie, 5 nearly dead AA batteries of various brands, a white out pen, and TWO silver sharpies. PM me

let me know how it works out for you because I desperately need more than 20gb. I only have two games installed and no movies or music and only have 1.1gb to spare.

Laptop. There's no real benefit in installing a non-MS drive in the 360 like there was with the original Xbox. You don't get any benefit like XBMC and you risk getting your 360 banned from Live.

Just try to find a good deal on a 360 60GB or 120GB HDD.

It is also pretty hard to get an ss.bin (I think thats what it is called). From what I understand the 20GB ss.bin won't work for the 120gb, so you pretty much have to have a 120gb already to get the ss.bin from. You can download one from a couple torrent sites, but hundreds of other people are using it too and if you + one of the others is online at the same time I believe you both get banned.

If you really want a 120GB buy one off ebay for ~$70, then call microsoft tell them you purchased an Elite off Amazon and need a Data Migration Kit. They will send you one for free. After you transfer your 20GB to your 120GB, sell the 20GB for (preferably on craigslist, mine went for $50 on craigslist whereas on ebay they are only going for like $30-$40) then sell your data migration kit (This I sold on ebay for $40, craiglist the highest offer I got was $20). By upgrading to a 120GB I actually made a $10 profit in the end.

I just did this last weekend. It was kind of frustrating at times because of the software needed kept crashing. I only had two problems with the whole project. I lost the "eject" button to the HDD case when my 2yr old daughter decided to help me. I also lost one of my saved games, Puzzle Quest.
