There has been a significant drop in prices in regards to these cpu's... can anyone shed any light as to which processor falls into that category of "sweetspot". Relatively small jump in price from 3000 to 3200 $45 compared to the $87 jump from 3200 to the 3500.

I am willing to cash in the extra bucks for the 3500 if the gain is significant...

any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated...

If you're talking about the Socket 939 Winchester (90nm) cores, do you plan on overclocking?

If you do, getting a 3000/3200 is ideal, because they both overclock great and offer you more performance for your money. If you don't plan on overclocking, get the fastest one you can buy and be happy with it.

i hope your talking about the skt939 90nm cores too...

indeed, if your going to OC, then definantly go for the 3000+. heck, you could get the 3000+ and just use stock cooling to easily and safely get 3200+ speed.

i would personally go with skt754. You can get the 3400+ (overal, about 1.5% slower than the 3500+, but only $245) with the 1MB clawhammer or $235 with the 512kb Newcastle (newcastle has a .2 GHZ faster clock speed though).

It will still be plenty fast either way!

I'd say go with the s939 3200. You'll get a higher multiplier and be able to OC using less vcore, which means lower temps. I believe it was anandtech that discovered when OCing these chips, the 3000 could go as far as the 3200 and 3500 but only with extra vcore. Also, you will be stressing the memory much more if you want to OC with a 1:1 ratio with the 3000, so you better have good memory. Thats why I'll be getting a 3200 pretty quick, and its only ~$40 more so it won't break the bank, but has those pluses.

Actually the 3400 newcastle beats the 3500 and the 3400 Claw in every benchmark... Some considerably.

Take your pick. I like skt754 boards from everything I've seen. They clock higher are cheaper and better like the DFI. In this case, the 3000 is the best deal. Mine hits 2650 H20. $130 here http://www.mwave.com/mwave/Pro...ard+Bundles+By+AMD+CPU

Don't believe the price they have listed it drops by 3-5% when you add it to cart.
