I'm thinking about upgrading my old Epox 8k5a2+ & Athlon 1600+ (266fsb) combo to something a little more recent - most likely an Athlon XP-Mobile CPU and 512MB PC3200. The only real sticking point that I've found is the motherboard. I've heard good things about the Shuttle AN 35N-Ultra for quite a while, mostly because it's been one of the cheaper Nforce boards for all that time. Good overclocker too, if I remember correctly. Besides, it looks like there is a little more space around the CPU socket on that one than on the other board I'm looking at, which is an Epox 8RDA3I.
Then again, I've been using Epox boards for a couple of years, and never had a problem. Also, the Epox board has 2 more built-in USB ports (4 to Shuttles' 2), and I like Epox's digital read-out for the BIOS, too. If I knew that the heatsink I plan on using would fit - I've got an old Thermalright AX-7 - I would get it in a heartbeat, but I'm not so sure.
So, what do you guys think?
EDIT: I should add that the difference in price is like $1, so that isn't an issue.
