Need a little help here. *btw sry if im posting this in the wrong place ;)* Ive got the choice of either buying a: new case and psu, another 512 stick of corsair *will now make my system dual channel*, WD800JB, or save up for a 21' moniter. Of the hdd and the ram, which would probably give me the most performance boost? The moniter im looking at is either the NEC 22', or the sony e-540. Let me know what you guys think =)

I would opt for the Monitor, no doubt about it.

Your system looks good as it is, overclock that Barton a bit.

Do you do any photochopping or video editing? If so you can up to another 512 of ram..

Most games are going to be raising the bar to 1 gig soon enough...

BF1942, SimCity 4 and C&C Generals are already trying to do that.

Half Life 2, Doom 3, and UT2k4, Max Payne are really going to do it.

neg on the photo editing, none of that... strictly gaming. I'm ocing my barton to... a 300mhz oc right now, i dont need to push it to the max, games arent demanding it enough. Which moniter do you suggest?
Btw, i do a ton of cs'ing. very competitive

Sounds good then,

Are you on a budget for this 21"?

For 21'' inchers I like the Viewsonic G220f 21" from newegg for only $522...

And if you have a little extra to spend i recommend the SONY 21"CRT MONITOR Model CPD-G520P.. $680 with a 100 mail in rebate..

:D

rgr budget.. im looking at 600 and under. I thought if im gonna spend over 500, might as well get the best of the avg.. the sony 520 is obviously the best crt out. but.... what, 1200 right now? too much $$$$. I heard that the sony f-540 has lighting probs?? which is the best out of nec/vs/sony/conerstone?

I think the monitor is the most important component of any computer system. It's something that you look at all the time and if you look at the screen much as I do each day, your eyes will thank you. Plus, quality monitor will last you lot longer than any processor or mb upgrade.

Big decision for me was not if I wanted a new monitor but if I wanted CRT or LCD. I use two 21 inch Nokia 445Xpro CRT. Both about 5 years old. I thought replacing one with 19 inch LCD but technology isn't mature enough yet on 19 inch LCD screen given its high price. 17 inch LCD have the new technology but is too small for my liking. I'm spoiled by years of using 21 inch monitors. I will probably pick up a LCD when 19 inch LCDs improve and drop in price in 6-12 months.

I debated between NEC FP2141SB 22-inch and Sony G520P 21 inch. Both were similar in price. I could get NEC cheap from Dell or Sony from Newegg. After much debating, I decided to go with Sony G520P from Newegg for $582 shipped. I should receive it early next week. I don't think you can really go wrong with either monitor.
