Hi
Found 7800 GT at zzf that can be had for $329 shipped.
And X1800XL at MCS that can be had for $435 + shpg.

The 7800 GT comes with the game (PAIN KILLER) too. Mine system's g/c is a X800XL. Should I pull the trigger on either the 7800 or X1800XL? Or is it just a waste of money since I will not gain much performance over my current X800XL?

Thx

I would direct you Here

If you have to choose between the two as of right now. 7800GT without question.
If your even considering spending 435.00 plus shipping on an XL, why would you not look Here for a 7800GTX for about the same price and a monumental performance increase.

If the price was equal between the GT and the XL, flip a coin... Since the GT is much cheaper right now, get the GT, or wait for the price to come down on the XL if that's what you really want.

Like Rise said, this needed a thread?

The 7800GT cost less, performs better, and comes with a free game. You would have to have some kind of mental disability to go with another choice.

I would agree with everyone here get the 7800GT. ANd IMHO even if they were the same price, I would get the GT. Only if the XL was cheaper would it be worth it. Horrible OpenGL performance is not for me, I want my Quake4, Prey and next gen wolfenstein thank you very much.

The X1800XL gives HDTV a new and better look with its AVIVO per quote
"What?s more, the X1800 introduces ATI?s revolutionary Avivo?, our new reference for video and display perfection"
Whereas the 7800 is NOT. That's why I need to justify for a $100 delta...

What is it with AVIVO that is so great compared to PureVideo? ATs review of deinterlacing shows PV coming out on top. What is it AVIVO brings to the table?

Edit: Forgot to say 7800GT. As people have already said, only if the price is equal should you consider the XL.

Here is an article that Anandtech released after the ATI countdown on.

Avivo vs. PureVideo Quality compared

This should make your decision a lot easier.

Absolutely, with all the emphasis ATI is putting into IQ elsewhere, those comparisons were disappointing.

You should've pulled the trigger on 8/11 with that Dell hot deal with me =P. $334 is not that much more if you can get it for $329 today. Anyways, yea. Grab the 7800GT. No questions. No regrets.
